Flos
Flos was founded in Merano, Italy in 1962 by brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Already in its first year, the duo created lamps that are now considered timeless design classics and remain in production today. Their ambition was to unite industrial manufacturing with sculptural form; an idea that shaped the Flos identity and laid the foundation for a collection that would come to define modern lighting design.
Since its inception, Flos has evolved into one of the most influential names in global lighting. The brand is built on a vision of combining technical innovation with artistic intuition and has played a pivotal role in transforming how light is used and experienced in both private and public spaces.
Several of Flos’ designs have achieved iconic status, including Arco, the dramatic floor lamp designed by the Castiglioni brothers; Taccia, admired for its sculptural presence and reflective illumination; Gatto, a softly glowing cocoon classic; Snoopy, the playfully elegant table lamp with a marble base and enamel shade; and IC Lights by Michael Anastassiades, celebrated for its perfect balance between opal glass and metal.
Collaborations have always been central to Flos’ development. Over the years, the brand has worked with some of the world’s most influential designers and architects, including Philippe Starck, Jasper Morrison, Patricia Urquiola, Michael Anastassiades, and Tobia Scarpa. These partnerships have resulted in many of Flos’ most innovative and beloved lighting pieces.
By merging Italian craftsmanship with advanced technology, cutting-edge LED innovation, and sustainable material choices, Flos continues to lead the evolution of modern lighting. The brand collaborates closely with designers and engineers around the world to create lighting that is aesthetically refined, functional, and built to last.
