Polspotten was founded in 1986 by Dutch entrepreneur Erik Pol, who began the business by importing and selling pots directly from the back of his car. The company originally operated under the name Pol’s Potten, reflecting its early focus on ceramic pots. As the assortment expanded and the business evolved far beyond its origins, the company underwent a natural renewal and adopted the name Polspotten; a name that better represented the brand’s growing ambition and broader creative direction.

When Erik Pol later left the company, the business was taken over by Theo Grootendorst and Jan Wolleswinkel. Under their leadership, Polspotten transformed from a small import operation into a global player within contemporary interior design, headquartered in Amsterdam. They steered the brand toward a wider and more playful collection of furniture, décor, lighting, and artistic objects.
